ABOUT JULIE

Born in the heart of Texas in Corpus Christi, Julia Canales was destined for a life filled with music. She stepped out of the womb, picked up her instruments and never looked back.

Julia’s musical tastes leaned towards hard rock and classic rock, finding inspiration in the sounds of Santana and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Fortunately, she realized there are badass women playing guitar too and drew influence from bigger legends like Kaki King, Joan Jett, Tracy Chapman, Yvette Young, and so many others.

In Austin, Texas, she embraced the city’s vibrant music scene and played in bands such as KickAction Collective and The Dave Diers Band. Currently, she’s lead guitarist for Not Your Ex Lover in Bend, Oregon.

As a queer Latina woman in the industry, Julia’s mission on stage is to shred faces and represent those before her that could not shred faces freely. Her mission is locked in – inspire other women to pick up an instrument and embrace the art of rock. Shred faces.
